A minor update with HUGE implications...<br><br>
Since the first day the ooTunes Radio app was released about a year and a half ago, the number 1 request has been:

<br>(sure there were some tricks to make it work beforfe, like the "play in safari" feature and the "ooTunes Server") but...

<b>Today</b>, for those lucky enough to have an iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 or a 3rd generation (32 or 64GB) iPod touch, that day has finally arrived!

This update enables multitasking as long as you have iOS 4 installed on one of the compatible devices mentioned above. All you have to do is update, launch the app, start listening and push the home button :)

</p><p>Essentially this is a group of 100s of independent software developers donating a day of revenue to the relief effort in Haiti. (Wednesday January 20th, 2009)
</p><p>While I'm sure most of you have already purchased ooTunes Radio, there are some great apps participating so check it out and help support a good cause.

This update fixes 3 issues that were reported very frequently:

The stream connect timeout was too short causing some streams to not connect even when they should.
</li>
<li>
WMA stream buffering was not filling the buffer which would cause frequent buffering (especially on slower connections).
</li>
<li>
The buffer for some flash streams (mostly NHL live hockey game streams) would stop playing after a few seconds.
</li>
</ol>
Please upgrade to this update as soon as possible, particularly if you've experienced any one of these symptoms.
<br><br>A few other minor changes/enhancements:

Alarms/Scheduled recordings now keep a history including stream and time (so you can set an alarm for the same time easily)
</li>
<li>
Sleep timer has more options (and a cancel option, if you decide not to set it).
</li>
<li>
More options for how many "recordings" to automatically save.

<li>
Sirius and Sirius Canada channels should now be easier to bookmark and can be used for alarms and scheduled recordings.

</p><p>Since I've had about 50 emails about the update not downloading correctly (download it, but version 2.6 still shows, etc.) I'm attaching here a brief warning. Apple's servers app update system doesn't always update as fast as they should (or something like that, they've never confessed to the problem or given any information to help that I've seen, surprisingly ;) so I believe after a few more hours (or days?) the updates should work for everyone. This IS a free update, if you're unable to download it, just be patient and try again later.

So what's new?? A couple of minor bug fixes, some minor improvements and 1 thing I really want to talk about!

<larger><b>Radio RooLette: lame name, awesome idea :)</b></larger>

This is *the* killer feature for internet radio. You already have 1000's of streams to pick from and they're neatly categorized into something like 300 genres 284 US cities and 89 countries (more on the way next update, I promise :), you can even shake to hear any of them at random.
</p>

So how do you find NEW stuff to listen to? You can probably only tolerate hearing about <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebEx">"WebEx"</a> or <a href="http://www.ncpc.org/cyberbullying">"what you should do about cyberbullies"</a> maybe 10 times per hour. <br> Hey, you may even want an occasional break from listening to <a href="http://ootunes.com/s/Rush-Limbaugh">Rush Limbaugh</a> or <a href="http://ootunes.com/s/Al-Sharpton">Al Sharpton</a> or even <a href="http://ootunes.com/s/NPR">Ira Glass</a>.... <br><br>so Radio RooLette is the first of such features that lets you find and hear a station not based on it's name, location or genre, but by what it's actually playing RIGHT NOW!<br><br> It's loads of fun, try it out using the "Radio RooLette" button item right on ooTunes' "Home" screen. <a href="http://help.ootunes.com/contact">Let me know</a> if you love it or hate it, and of course, <a href="http://help.ootunes.com/contact">let me know</a> if you have any other feature ideas, questions, suggestions or if you want me to marry your daughter (no don't really, I'm spoken for :)

</li><li> Bookmarks, Favorites, Tagged stations and other lists of stations (by city, genre, etc.) are now sorted alphabetically.

</li><li> Default Twitter/Facebook posts are now much shorter and more readable.
</li><li> New "ooTunes Track Info" page for tracks you've bookmarked (if they can't be played directly)... expect this to become really really cool over time :)

<p>In the future, look for restarting tracks where they last left off, fast-forward and rewind within tracks, and then with iPhone OS 3.0, great enhancements to video playback!

<h4>Radio Mode changes:</h4>

<li>Added shake to shuffle</li>
<li>Added browse by Genre, Country and Major US Cities</li>
<li>Much faster loading of stream database</li>
<li>Lower memory footprint for stream database and wma streaming</li>
<li>Better buffering and faster connection times for (most) wma streams</li>
<li>Delete individual favorites, recents, most played, tags and tagged streams</li>
<li>"radio only" toggle on first load so you never have to tap it again.</li>
<li>Stop and Start a stream with a single tap</li>
</ul>
<b>Over 5000 streams now!</b> (these show up automatically when the database is refreshed)
<h4>ooTunes Server Mode changes:</h4>
<ul>
<li>Shake to shuffle any playlist.</li>
<li>Added browse by Album, Artist and Genre</li>
<li>Login using an account other than your ooTunes "master" account</li>
<li>Improved playback of some tracks that wouldn't play.</li>
<li>Improved playback of very short tracks.</li>
<li>Ability to specify "Max bitrate" for audio files to be transcoded on the server (if you experience a lot of buffering, try lowering the max bitrate in the "Settings" app)</li>

(No one asked for the "shake to shuffle" but I'll be honest, it's almost addicting to play a random station that way... you never know what you'll hear... (I can only imagine what it would be like if there were more "police scanners" in the DB!
