I have noticed a bug in Windows with STSPLUS naming extension of the satellite comnfiguration files.
Certainly with Windows NT and Windows 98, even with 'show all filenames' turned ON, and 'hide extensions for registered applications' is turned OFF, the STSPLUS.SCF, GPS.SCF, etc, these show up only as STSPLUS and GPS without any extension showing.
Windows thinks they are Windows Explorer Commands []images/icons/default/frown.gif" border="0[/]
Anyone found a way to tell windows to show the extensions?

You shouldn't do anything with these files. If you change the associations to those files, you will have some big problems develope with your Windows. You may have problems with some of the driver installations.
If you change the association to, lets say Notepad, you will have notepad pop up durning certain windows operations.

Dave,
I have noticed the same 'bug' in windows as well! In my STSPLUS directory all the filenames and extensions show up with the one any only exception of any .SCF file, it shows up ONLY as the filename with no extension (that is visable in NT Explorer), DOS says the filename DOES have the .scf extension).
However Windows NT explorer INSISTS they are Windows Explorer Command.
Here is the properties of STSPLUS.SCF
Type: Windows Explorer Command
Location: C:\STSPLUS
MS-DOS Name: STSPLUS.SCF
This is Windows NT server, with Service Pack 6A. I have only looked briefly at my Windows 98 Partition, but again I did not see any STSPLUS.SCF showing up, just STSPLUS without the extension.
I found in the system properties that the extension .SCF is a Windows Explorer Command and opens with Internet Explorer. If your a Netscape user, I see no problem with killing this association.
As a Netscape 6 user, any Internet Explorer users there that have any experience with SCF files and the possible removal from the associations of the extension without affecting IE?

Even if you use Netscape, it will still be a problem since Explorer is still being used for your desktop. The GUI, desktop, file manger, etc are all IE in the file mode.
I made the boo boo once playing with the SCF associations, I am not going back. []images/icons/default/smile.gif" border="0[/] I created shortcuts to the files using "notepad.exe filename.scf" and added them to my STS Plus directory.

Dave,
Damn Windows, chock up yet another bug! I can understand that Windows wants .scf extensions as a Windows Explorer Command.
It just puzzles me that you play with Windows (in a rather advanced manner I would say) and tell it to show all filename extensions, hidden files and system files regardless and it just decides that it will show you everything EXCEPT a .SCF extension.
I guess it should have a check box saying 'hide file extensions for known file types EXCEPT .SCF these never show up reagdless of this option' []images/icons/default/smile.gif" border="0[/]
Oh maybe time for Windows ME 2001 to add a new checkbox 'show .scf extensions'
There you go a good reason to release a new Windows version and add some more millions to poor broke Bill []images/icons/default/smile.gif" border="0[/]

Actually you can force it to show by changing an entry in the registry.. But there is a certian section of the registry hive that I try to stay away from..
