Well, I have my CV8 monaro and I decided to buy a rear wing for it and since Holden dealers don't want to sell you one and if they do, they must supply, paint and fit and charge you an outrageous price, up yours Holden dealers. I was given a phone number of a company called Ray Zahl's designer kits and spoilers at Moorooka. I spoke to the owner Ray, I said I want this spoiler and I want the paint matched 99% perfect (devil yellow). Well, Ray said he would give it his best shot. Now, I know through experience if you persevere you will get the results you want but these lazy greedy Panel Beater/Spray Painters today aren't prepared to spend a little extra time to match the paint correctly thus you end up with a slightly lighter or darker colour. Well, I can tell you this, Ray Zahls did a very good job and if they can do it, why can't these other Spray Painter/Panel beaters do it? OOOhhhh I know why? time is money and it takes time to match the paint correctly.
Now I have decided to go back to Ray for another job, see I have bought a VZ monaro vented bonnet to suit my CV8 monaro, so we have the same problem again, can the bonnet painted match the car? So what I did was ring up for a few quotes, 5 Panel Beater/Spray Paint shops and Ray Zahls, 3 of the panel beater shops were dearer than Ray, 2 were cheaper but what got my attention was the panel beater/spray painters shops said to me quote "we will blow some paint on your guards sir" I said "your painting the bonnet mate, not the guards, he replied, we paint over the guards so it matches the bonnet, then I said, when you paint over the guards, there must be an edge between the new paint on the guard and the existing paint, he replied "Oh we put clear lacquer over that sir". I said I want the bonnet painted, why don't you just match the paint correctly? Oh, I forgot, that takes time, its a lot easier to paint the tops of the guards to match the bonnet. Anyhow, whilst I am typing this Ray Zahls is spraying my bonnet, I have given him my petrol cap cover, like I did for the rear wing spoiler and he is going to give it his darn best shot to match it as good as what he did on the rear wing spoiler.
Stay tuned folks for the outcome.
Phil
