As I know lots of local people around Albany Creek look at my forum I though I might post this about our local Primary School.
When school first started early this year I was sitting outside my sons classroom (Green Group) look at this lovely new school when my eye's veered across to a long series of cracks on load bearing walls. I commented to the teacher to address this matter in their next meeting or tell the Head Master.
Two months later myself and the missus had to visit the school regarding my son's learning problems and again my eye's went straight to those series of cracks and they're getting bigger. I asked again to tell whoever is responsible (the Manager or Headmaster) to take appropriate action.
Well today is the 24th of June the year of two thousand and three (2003) I had to go and pick my son up as my daughter is sick and the crack is still there and its now MASSIVE.
I again spoke to the teacher, I came home and rang the Head Master to raise my concerns, he explained to me that he already knows this problem and is in a shit fight between the Government, Builder and whoever. THIS IS SIX MONTHS NOW SINCE I FIRST REPORTED IT AND ACCORDING TO THE HEADMASTER THEY STILL HAVEN'T HAD A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM because who is going to pay for it??.
Now the 12MM cracks in the brick wall supporting the MASSIVE concrete spans (beams) could be nothing as inside the brick wall could be a concrete pier, but I don't know that, nor does the Head Master, BUT I WOULDN'T WAIT 5 MONTHS to get the architect with the original drawings with his structural Engineer to visit the School.
This is outrageous typical government pen pushing idiots !! If it was my house with this problem I WOULD HAVE THE ENGINEER OUT THE NEXT DAY and this only affects my families well being but this involves many. I wonder if the parents whose kids are in those class rooms know about this problem? How could a school keep kids in those class rooms knowing that there could be a structural problem.
I will wait a little longer and if the school or the government don't tackle this issue quickly I will bring it to the attention of the Media.
Phil

[ 24. Phil
Its a worry! If I was me I would involve the media if you don't get satisfaction from the Head Master. I would love to see you with Today Tonight at the school as I know you personally and I know you don't take shit from anybody or any company.
What bothers me is if you say this has been going on for months and the school has not had a Structural engineer out yet and something did happen after you have brought it to their attention and if someone got injured or killed its "Criminal Negligence"
Accidents always happen, But if someone brings it to attention and while the school and the Government argue who is going to pay for it something happens this will be a Lawyers dream.
I can't believe they still haven't had a Structural engineer out yet.
Fred

Typical bureaucrats all they do is talk,If that building has a fault the responsibility lies with the Head Master the Block should be closed down!whats wrong with the Head master since he has not had the building inspected the kids should be removed.
Get the media out they will do something about it.
Peter.

Fred/Peter
This is what should happen!
The original Architect and the structural Engineer should be bought back to the school, they are to do a thorough inspection and in writing give a guarantee that it is still safe for the kids and the teachers to occupy this building.
As I said before the bricks might only be superficial hiding a massive concrete pylon but we all don't know that till the Architect and his drawings are seen.
What still bothers me not unless I understood the Head Master incorrectly is that they are still arguing who is going to pay for the inspection, forget the repair of it thats another day, but this matter has to be seen urgently and it should not become a political potato at the expense of safety.
I will wait a little, to see if the Head Master bothers to give me a ring.
Personally I think he won't and I hope he doesn't take me lightly, I have spoken to my other half and I would prefer to leave my son at home than in a unsafe building.
Phil

[ 25.
