Small magnitude 2.8 earthquake 27 miles north of Gawler, Australia2.8 quake 30 Oct 6:26 am (GMT +10:30) Just 24 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Gawler, South Australia, Australia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Monday, October 30th, 2023, at 5:56 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 6 miles below the surface. The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Giles Corner (pop. 27) located 3 miles from the epicenter. In Kapunda (pop. 2,900, 16 miles away), Freeling (pop. 2,200, 18 miles away), Nuriootpa (pop. 6,200, 25 miles away), Tanunda (pop. 4,500, 27 miles away), Clare (pop. 3,200, 27 miles away), Gawler (pop. 20,000, 27 miles away), and Lewiston (pop. 3,000, 27 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
