Well, I got sick of it and did a full format this morning. Now, as we all know this gets rid of everything but you wouldn't believe it, after installing all the software and my backup files of last week, now I have windows coming up (2 or 3 different) saying I have problems in my registry and its telling me to go to Registry-Doctor.com or another window comes up and it comes up as reg (something else, have forgotten).com or another window comes up with the same message and tells me that if you have Windows XP, 98, 95, NT, please go to the link below in the window to get your registry repaired. Now, I reformatted the hard drive again as I suspected that my backed up files of only days ago were corrupted and all I have done is put corrupted files back into a newly formatted computer, so what I did is reformatted again and installed my folders and files of 4 months ago which I know are 100% clean. I did not use virtually anything from the computer of a few days ago and you wouldn't believe it, those 3 messages from WINDOWS MESSENGER come up again. Would these be generated by windows? or have I still got something on my computer which is causing this or have I possibly got a corrupted or damaged XP disc with a genuine registry problem? Remember, all messages coming up are different but say I have a registry problem and point me to different sites. Please, someone help me, what could be going on?

By the sound of it, doesn't look good...
Definately you have something nasty in the register which keep sending you links to some URLs (probably infected ones)

Still, knowing you and your protection, it's close to impossible to get a virus on your PC

All I can say, you've done all I would do if I'm in your shoes...hmmmm....

phill sound like a virus or malware of some sort
as i dint think Microsoft would be pointing you to a competors site to fix its product
this is what i would do

try this install windows and drivers update it install your security stuff up date it

then scan all your backup files while they are still on there back up CD or DVD or what ever be for you use them and copy them across in batches so you Know what you are coping ( it takes time but better than doing it 20 time and getting the same results)

how this helps

en of line

Phil,

Don't be too quick in restoring your files.
As Jason said, first format and install XP. Then, do SP2 update. No, before you ask, it will not crash. It crashed last time cause you already had been "done". Then go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and let it update everything in there.

Now before you do anything, ghost copy your "virgin" C:\. This way you wont have to reinstall, just boot from a ghost floppy and restore from the Ghost image on DVD.

Load all your anti virus, malware, spyware.... software. Do the scan of your backup files, as Jason said, using all the virus, spyware....software separately. Then, only if it is ok-ed by all the scanners, restore 'em one by one.

BTW, Favourites in your web browser, may contain redirects to spyware and malware sites. BEWARE!

Russian sites, run on the fact that they "must" allow their "sponsors" to inundate your PC with ****! Not only Russian sites. There is a price one pays for downloading "cracks" to software

Regards,
Vlad...
