What do you think.
Is it good for one to have the Balkans channels only , Or would U be happy if The Balkans Stayed on both the Providers. Please give reasons as some Of the Installs i have done the Customers are concerned that UBI will lose them and then TV Plus with another two or three extra channels will be charging around $100 Per month

I have nothing against having two (or more) providers. Better will win. Customers will take advantage of competition.

I remember 10 years ago while Telstra was "only Choice" for overseas phone calls I use to pay $3.00 pet min for some countries abroad.
Now, with so many providers, for the same call I pay only $0.23 per min.

yes I agree with the post above...I think its better there are more tv providers...and something tells me that TV+ will have a different package to one that UBI has...The only way they can beat UBI is to bring the chs UBI doesnt have..eg. attract bosnian - muslim, or more of croatian tv chs...to be honest I know couple of muslim families and none of them had nor are they considering to have serbian chs (BN, BK, PINK)...but are having foxtel...I think its the same in Syd n Melb...

Night_flight
Well this is good information for both UBI and TV plus.
YU4CFG I agree with you 100%, there must be competition otherwise one provider can charge what they want, also just in case if one Provider fails the Balkans population than has a second choice to get there channels back.
$100 Per month is a bit steep even if they have 10 Balkans channels, Pay TV providers must remember that States like QLD the average wage is a lot lower than other states.

Yes i agree with all of the above, otherwise you have dictatorship at your expence

Well NSW subscribers are rich... we are poor
Posted By: Jedi Knight Re: TV Plus & UBI - Sun 30 Jan 2005 03:37:PM
NSW and VIC have the highest average wage in Australia, Suger!!!! in Sydney a Maintenance Electrician was on around $45K per year with no overtime. Working for the same company in QLD doing the same work you get between $30K to $32K WHY???
Mind you the cost of living is not much cheaper.
Only major things cheaper up here are Houses, insurance but other things are a lot more expensive because they have to come from Sydney & Melbourne

I must admit there most of the opinions above reflects the majority of the ppl same as me. I would like to ad few more comments to complete my task. First of all, We, NSW ppl are known as rich due to the wages but comparision of the living cost would show the reality as not many ppl have the same living standars as WA, Qld and SA. I have been in most of the Australian places due to my work commitments. In most places, The living cost is like peanats compare Sydney. We might work very hard to get more income but have to spent much more than other states to live. I totaly disagree with the "NSW subscribers are Rich" comment, and would like to recommend to all who agrees with the above comment to check the living cost at NSW such as mortgage, rent, water, land rate, electricity, telephone, mobile, insurance, car, etc. etc... Regards,

fsking
Before I left Sydney I worked for Kilpatrick Green. I was on $44K a year no OT, up here in Brisbane working for the SAME company doing the same work (I refused to join them in Brisbane) your start wage is $28K a year to a max of $32K a year. Only companies under a Federal award pay the same as southern states.
Yes Houses are cheaper and so is Insurance but the rest when it comes to white goods is cheaper in Sydney mainly because they are shipped up from Sydney/Melbourne.
Hows this for an INSULT???
I bought a New 135 CM TV 4 years ago. I went around most of the shops around Nth Brisbane for the best CASH price for this one and only Model and in Brisbane could only get the Malaysian version. I wanted the same model but made in Japan. Better Quality control.
To rub salt into your wounds you pay more in Brisbane and get the crappy version.
I end up buying it at Cabramatta Hi Fi and shipped it up here and saved around $1000 and got the Model made in Japan that I wanted. Now that was 4 years ago.

In Sydney most people are asset rich but cash poor, this is good when it comes to retirement but it doesn't help with bills, including pay TV ones. Back to the topic, there must be the real competition in the pay TV industry otherwise it will have to be regulated by the government, like water and electricity for instance.

Trust me I'm as tight as a fishes arse when it comes to money, I always go where the bargains are for anything the same. I hate and will not be ripped off
by anyone because I do my homework before I do my buying, I get the best of All worlds.
Well there is one thing that doesn't suit me INTEREST RATES, I won't say more.
Why should I

1/Buy a New monaro for $1080 dearer then the best price in Sydney
2/ Why shoud I buy AUTOART models 1/18 scale here in Brisbane or the rest of Australia when I can buy the same on the west coast of the US Send it to Aus + the Exchange rate + insurance for less than half
3/ Now I won't get into HO Train, A Hammersley Iron Double ended Diesel cost $440 at Hobbyrama, In the US at TRAINS ON LINE its $72 US.
You have to shop around to get the best price in or out of this country

Totally agree, I do lots of Froogle shopping on the Internet.
Posted By: fsking Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 04:57:PM
Nick,
You might be very lucky not loosing money at those shoppings, but believe me I have lost big bucks over the internet business so its not safe as most ppl tought. I take extreem cautions when doing any transactions....
Posted By: Boring Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 04:59:PM
Use a credit card. It is very easy to ask your bank for a charge back.
Posted By: fsking Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 05:05:PM
Boring,
Most ppl sells the stuff via internet banking and very little chance to get it COD if lucky. If the shopping from a company, yes there might be a way to track it down but considering what happened to Jason's case - I Central, it's still very risky...

I wouldnt pay via direct deposit to a business. CC only for me. The only direct deposit payment I use is on Ebay to people with lots of good feedback.

If the business doesnt have CC facilities , I would find them very suss and wouldnt purchase.

My credit card has online fraud protection hence there's no risk to me. Once I didn't get a book ordered from Amazon and I got refunded but the book eventually arrived anyway, nice free present.
Posted By: fsking Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 05:46:PM
Nick,
Do you get this internet fraud protection from the credit card provider/Bank and what's the actual cost involved...Could you please inform us? Thanks...
Posted By: Nick Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 07:08:PM
Yes, it comes with my Amex Maximiser card and it's a free benefit, no additional cost involved. I get something similar with my CBA Platinum card as well, plus complimentary 1 year extended warranty and 90 days insurance on most goods, and chargeback security for undelivered purchases. Not bad.
Posted By: Boring Re: TV Plus & UBI - Tue 01 Feb 2005 11:00:PM
Chargeback is what I was referring to , which Nick has explained better.

If you have a credit card fsking , give your bank a ring for more info. Its not something they really publicise too much.
