"Yes this Topic unemployment for the over Fifties"
I have met 9 people via this forum regarding all Satellite stuff that have a similar problem, they're all having problems finding employement. Now some of these people are quite Qualified like Mechanical Engineer Draftsman and others were Trade Qualified. After talking to these people I asked them to do something for me JUST A LITTLE TEST OF DISCRIMATION
1/ Make a new Rusume but make yourself around 30 years old USE IDENTICAL QUALIFACTIONS but use a different name (ALIAS)just make sure all the years add up so you are younger
2/If you have 2 phone numbers use the second for the Phoney Rusume and if you have only one phone number use a neighbours if they let you.
3/If you get on well with your neighbours use also their address.
The reason why you do this is when you apply for a position as yourself ALSO APPLY WITH YOUR ALIAS WITH THAT IDENTICAL RESUME JUST A BIT YOUNGER you will be suprised what will happen. These companies are so stupid these days they dont even suspect anything that the qualifications are the same on these 2 applicants, but guess who get the interview, the YOUNGER MODEL and what I have noticed that larger the company the more floors of "HUMAN DISASTERS" (HUMAN RESORCES) the more they will discrimate against you because of your age, If you have done this and you have the balls to go for the interview as the younger applicant which was asked to attend and ask to see the MANAGER and Watch them run for cover when they find out what has happened then tell them you are visiting the "ANTI DISCRIMATION BOARD" and if you want a story RING ACA A CURRENT AFFAIR they will do some stirring for you
I have approched CENTELINK with Evidence and they scratched their heads saying ARRRRRRR this is something new Hummmmmmm ,,,,,,come on get your heads out of the buckets This is totally not acceptable.
The reason I have put this topic on this forum is because I know lots and lots read this forum so if you are an oldie and having trouble getting employment do the above get the evidence and Complain to the company/anti discrimation board/local MP/centrelink/and ring your local paper and ask them if they would like a good story dont just do it once do it with at least 2 to 3 companies that have rung you for an interview as younger applicant.

Phil

Phil
This is disgusting, one of my neighbours is in the same boat and he tells me that centrelink came up with all the training that he does not need, as he is up with it when it comes to technology and skills, he also has a professionally written rusume, heaps of qualifications and he also never gets interviews. The trouble is the Management from Centrelink don't seem to get out of there air conditioned buildings to see for themselves what it going on and also they come up with all this training how to get a job, WHAT JOB! they need to train the Employers. Maybe they need to do the same dirty tactics that you do but no they wouldn't do that. They might get a fright. The problem lies in that you can't force an employer to take on an elderly person regardless of his qualifications. This is a problem world wide. I have copied this article of yours and have made copies of it and will pass it to the pupils in my class as we might use this as a discussion topic...

Steve

No doubt about it Phil you are a thinker only you would have thought out something like this Yes I would encourage anyone over the what Managers say the "USE BY DATE" to do this and ask Government Departments for answers.
I have been told that Centrelink do force People to do some of their courses and intimidate you with blackmail, if you don't do this this is what will happen!!!!, but the funny thing is do they ever mention anything about what really goes on when you say you have applied for over 100 positions. There answer is Your Resume is too old,,,,WRONG,,,,,your interviewing techniques are not correct,,,WRONG, you are not up with the skills and technology,,,,WRONG, they always put the blame on you, you are the problem and when you tell them that you could be discriminated against for age they only hum and hah, it only happens a little sir. Good on you Phil, I will personally hand this on myself to pass to others. If enough people do this then they might do something about people in the elderly group who are having problems finding employment.
Peter

To all of the above
I have had a lot to do with Centrelink here in Broken Hill and unemployment is bad for the young people 18-35 yrs old as for the older people they sometimes have a better chance only because it is a very close community and most older people like my uncle got there jobs from people and Businesses they allready know.
But for some elderly person moving up here forget it mate the rule is "Its not what you know its who you know"
Phillip

Go for it Phil I could imagine you turning up as a 29 year old, you have'nt changed a bit. You are a typical Maltese when someone pisses you off you always have the last laugh because you always get back at them, your problem is your always fighting other peoples wars or maybe you like a bit of a battle it keeps your blood hot
This is a good one I am going to pass this to my Boss he Never employs anyone over 45 as he reckons they're to slow and don't like working overtime ,but I will tell him there is a new Department that is checking employers by sending identical resumes with different ages and names.
Hey he will shit himself..... and probably feel guilty and employ someone over 45
Peter

Jason
Don't worry about the Laws because you only go for an interview as the 53 year old after you have been accepted for an interview as a 29 year old. Once arriving you ask the receptionist that you have arrived as the 53 year old with your real name but they say there is a mistake there is no interview for you the 53 year old then you ask why the 29 year old with the other name got the interview then you ask the management why this 53 year old with the identical resume did not get the interview why did the 29 year old get it.
But you have to be cunning they will say that the 29 year old did not get an interview too you must be totally confused???
But Jason you know me and you know what I am like When my second phone number ring ( rings with a different tone I use this only for special occasions)I automatically know that Its someone ringing for the 29 year old which When I ANSWER THE PHONE I KNOW ITS FOR A JOB INTERVIEW SO THE PERSON SAYS HI MR ,,,, ,,,,, HOW ARE YOU, YOU HAVE AN INTERVIEW AT SO,SO SO SO SO AND SO YOU SAY "YOU DONT MIND IF I RECORD THIS DO YOU, THEY STUPIDLY SAY NO PROBLEMS NOT KNOWING YOU HAVE RECORDED THE CONVERSATION THEY THINK YOU ARE RECORDING THE DETAILS ADDRESS AS IN WRITING.
I have done this twice 12 and 18 months ago both companies were sucked in.

Yes they say entraptment but you say "ACA" A CURRENT AFFAIR and tell them this matter is going to be handed over to the anti-discrimation board what are they going to do,,,NOTHING,,,because they can be prosecuted for discrimation against you
Phil

Phil
Again good one you are a legend like said above only you would have though of that you defintly are a thinker, like musicman said under the "DVD LASER DISC section you always do thing different and improve things Like was said in another post about cars and car racing 25 years ago you had the fastest street car at the Drags you held the Australian National record for 12 months and yes he was different again "NOBODY USES A HOLDEN V8 everyone used an 302 Chev V8 no no no not phil he was the ONLY person to use something different because nobody could get the horsepower out of an holden V8 but Phil did and kicked everyones arse
"Ps" when you drop dead one day you still will be thinking, Can not understand how someone has not snapped you up! you are a THINKER.
You Sure you are not related to The Edward Debono
Fred

To all
I have a great job now which I love its a new market, helping the over 50's, yes only over 50's to learn how to use the internet. This is something new. I visit people at their own homes and run special classes of at least ten pupils at the local libraries. I don't rush them, I don't treat them like doctors do ie your ten minutes is up (not my doctor he is an exception), I genuinely spend time with them and help them to use the internet correctly as most of their children are computer literate and their children live all around the world. They want to know how to send and receive emails, scan a photo, send a photo and I have even been asked can I remove the grey hair out of my photo before sending it??? Most of these oldies are very pleasant people, they can't wait to see me, they have a cup of tea waiting with a few scones. It is difficult to train people of this age (52 is my youngest, the eldest is 79), but I do have patience. I do set up their computers sometimes, "eg" slow the mouse pointer down because some of the people have stability problems with their hands. I have found that I do definitely get on better with elderly people than the younger generation that don't personally know me because I am getting sick and tired of the University know-alls that know fuck all!!! So if you know of any elderly people around Australia tell them not to despair with technology because help is out there and there are people like me willing to help them.

Phil

[ 01. Steve,

The funny thing is I was only at Centrelink today talking to two people regarding my concerns about the way us elderly people are treated regarding employment. As you know, there are people on this forum with science degrees, university lecturers, school teachers and they always ask for my opinion. My poor old non university degree opinion!!!! I hope the people at Centrelink (who I found very pleasant) do follow up what I recommended to them but I don't think they will because this will generate a can of worms. They will genuinely find out then that over 90% of employees today discriminate against anyone over 50.

I'd love to educate people from Centrelink and others but its just too long to type.

cheers
Phil
