This is the original news document that covered the Child neglect case. The department had records of this going back three years.

FOURTEEN children and three adults at the centre of a child neglect investigation that has shocked Australia are today in a secret location after being removed from their rubbish-strewn public housing property.

Families SA workers, Housing SA officers and police yesterday converged on the four-bedroom house in the Adelaide suburb of Parafield Gardens.

Teenagers and toddlers covered with blankets and clothing were taken away in two vans while three male adults and a pregnant female adult left together in a sedan.

The RSPCA - which had taken two dogs from the house on Tuesday - also returned yesterday after a tip-off there were more animals at the property, which they described as a "pig sty".

Five dogs - which the tenants admitted hiding - were yesterday examined by the RSPCA and deemed to be in good health.

However, 12 rabbits found at the house were removed.

SA Families and Communities Minister Jay Weatherill last night said 12 children and their pregnant mother, and two children from another family, would stay together in temporary accommodation for about three months while two houses at a separate location were converted into a permanent, larger house.

Mr Weatherill has maintained for three days the only issue involving the family has been overcrowding. Yesterday, he said the reason for moving the family was intense public scrutiny, which meant the children could not live a "normal" life.

Six children from another family who had been living at the house, and whose mother has been charged with multiple counts of child neglect, remain in hospital.

Mr Weatherill said those children would be placed in foster care, subject to a court hearing on July 1.
