Small earthquake of magnitude 3.3 just reported 13 miles southeast of Salina, Kansas, United States3.3 quake 26 Dec 11:51 pm (GMT -6) Just 15 minutes ago, a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Salina, Saline County, Kansas, USA. The tremor was recorded late at night on Sunday, December 26th, 2021, at 11:51 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.3 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Gypsum (pop. 400) located 5 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Lindsborg (pop. 3,400) located 11 miles from the epicenter, Salina (pop. 47,800) 13 miles away, Solomon (pop. 1,100) 19 miles away, McPherson (pop. 13,100) 22 miles away, and Abilene (pop. 6,600) 23 miles away. In Junction City (pop. 24,600, 44 miles away), Newton (pop. 19,200, 44 miles away), and Hutchinson (pop. 41,600, 48 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
