Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 100 km southeast of Yurimaguas, Peru early morning4.4 quake 27 Aug 2:40 am (GMT -5) Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Yurimaguas, Provincia de Alto Amazonas, Loreto, Peru. The tremor was recorded early morning on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, at 2:40 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface. The event was filed by the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN), the first seismological agency to report it. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Monte Bello (pop. 650) located 23 km from the epicenter, Dos de Mayo (pop. 400) 24 km away, and Saman (pop. 580) 36 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chazuta (pop. 8,000) located 95 km from the epicenter, and Yurimaguas (pop. 41,800) 100 km away.
