This is a different topic its Roof Restoration!!
Yes I have Decided to get my poor 18 year old roof restored, yes that means re-beding, re-pointing and Re-painting and who do you get to do this Job???
So I decided to get 6 quotes from different companies just to see what I get for my money. Now I will fill you in. My roof was restored 8 years ago with the previous owner and some scumbag company did a shocker,"ITS ALL PEELING OFF"
Now I have done some homework prior to ringing for the quotes and I was told that to do a 100% job ALL, yes ALL, ALL that means 100% of the old paint has to come off, not just a minor pressure clean/seal/primer/ and final coats.
Out of the 6 companies only "ONE" told me he will not do it as he cannot guarantee the job as they will not be able to remove all of the existing paint.
I Asked all the restores what type and pressure their cleaners are, Hummmmm around 2500 to 4000 PSI, now that would not lift shit.
Last week I decide to do some homework and rang some professional Water Blasters Companies and I told them what I wanted to do was to remove the old flaking paint, but some was still reasonably stuck on, have you got any experience of this??
YES ! he said you won't take it off with 2500 to 4000 PSI you need over 5000 to 6000 PSI and it will remove everything, exact words 6000 PSI will remove the paint on a new car and leave dints with one swipe.
Now I spoke to a friend of mine in Sydney and he is a Roof Tiler and he CLEARLY told me that the re-cycling of old roofs to be repainted are causing a problem, so when they restore an old restored roof they don't muck around, they get the "BIG GUN" out and rip 100% of the old paint off and do a proper job of the preparation.
So what do these Queensland companies use these pissy low pressure guns that don't full remove the old paint?.
Out of the 6 quotes this is my impression
1/ Crook forget him
2/ a maybe but he told me he won't get all the paint off with his pressure cleaner, but he was honest with everything else.
3/Forget him
4/Forget him, no safety railing used and the dearest.
5 The biggest, won't do the job as he can't give me a guarantee, I asked why don't you use a stronger cleaner?,,,hummmm we don't have one..
6/ another wanker, full of shit!

What bothers me is I can ring a company that comes to my house with a 3 cylinder diesel pressure cleaner that spits out over 5000 PSI and he guarantees me there will be "NO PAINT LEFT" on it when I finish. So why can't the roof restorers do the same? Aren't they competent enough??.
By the look of it to do a proper job I will have to get the roof stripped separately from a water blaster company than call the Painters, not the so called restorers to finish the job.
Phil
