Bligh has repeatedly said the budget is under pressure.
The Opposition's Tim Nicholls today told Parliament the Treasury has ordered department heads to make big cutbacks to avoid a budget deficit.
Ms Bligh says departments have been ordered to their tighten belts, but not by a specific amount.
"Has the under-treasurer been talking to director generals about making sure there's no fat out there that shouldn't be getting trimmed? Of course he has," she said.
Earlier today, a parliamentary committee found the Premier should not be disciplined for not declaring a controversial holiday at a friend's house in Sydney because she did not know it broke the rules.
Good advice from someone that dished out 500 odd million to the department of child safety. Money well spent. Hey annie

Bligh won't budge on smacking code
Posted Sun Nov 23, 2008 2:00pm AEDT
The Queensland Government says it will not change a controversial section of the criminal code that allows "reasonable force" to be used when disciplining children.
The State Government reviewed 200 cases in response to concerns that parents were using discipline as a defense for abusing their children.
Premier Anna Bligh says the review showed parents who use excessive force are being charged and penalized accordingly.

Bligh defends govt company Christmas parties
The Queensland Premier says it is acceptable for government-owned corporations to hold modest staff Christmas parties.
The State Government introduced new rules for hospitality spending earlier this year after telling Queensland Rail to cancel a $30,000 Riverfire function.
More than 200 people are expected to attend a Port of Brisbane Christmas function tonight that will cost between $30,000 and $40,000.
But Anna Bligh says it is a very different event.
"While I expect to see our government-owned corporations entertain to a modest and moderate level, I don't think that extends to not celebrating Christmas with their staff," she said.
Onya Annie. but you forget the ones your department have made so very lonely for that so called festive season. Must be good to know you have made others suffer

A HIGH-RANKING Government social worker has spoken out to reveal a dysfunctional department at breaking point, placing children at risk of dying.
Fearing a "witch-hunt", the veteran Families SA social worker spoke on condition of anonymity, calling for an immediate end to an efficiency-driven staff freeze.
It's estimated a 4 per cent Government salary savings push has resulted in 58 vacant full-time child protection positions across SA.
"I'm driven to this, and I don't do this lightly, because of the diabolical state that we're in, and out of concern that there will be a death soon," the social worker said.
He says in Adelaide's northern region, 1200 notifications during July, August and September were "closed no action" but many of those children remain in danger of abuse or neglect.

It has opened up so much, its just not QLD, and its just not Us. The titanic will hit the iceberg, and every department worker found to be corrupted will, sink, the head of this, will also be in the spotlight. Australia has covered up way too much, Let the world know, for it is a crime against humanity.
