Moderate yet deep 5.0 quake hits near Malingao, Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines5.0 quake 1 Mar 6:51 am (GMT +8) An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred early morning on Monday 1 March 2021 at 6:51 am local time near Malingao, Cotabato, Soccsksargen, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 140 km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Osias (pop. 3,200) located 8 km from the epicenter, Kabacan (pop. 31,800) 47 km away, Midsayap (pop. 32,900) 50 km away, Valencia City (pop. 83,600) 51 km away, Budta (pop. 1,273,700) 56 km away, Malingao (pop. 1,122,000) 57 km away, Kidapawan (pop. 79,700) 65 km away, Iligan City (pop. 312,300) 93 km away, and Koronadal City (pop. 125,500) 114 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available.
