SPACE STATION ASTRONAUT TO SHARE MISSION WITH PUBLIC


HOUSTON - The public is invited to relive an exciting six months in space on Nov. 30 with Expedition 13 Flight Engineer and Science Officer Jeff Williams, who returned to Earth in September, after a 183-day stay on the International Space Station.


Williams will discuss his mission at Space Center Houston at 6:30 p.m. CST on Nov. 30. The event is free and will include slides, videos, a question-and-answer session and a brief autograph session in the Northrop Grumman Theater. The doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For those who come late and cannot be seated in the main theater, accommodations will be made in an adjacent area to watch the program on a closed-circuit television. The event is open to JSC employees, contractors, friends, family members and public guests.


Williams and Commander Pavel Vinogradov were launched in late March on the Russian Soyuz TMA-8 from Baikonur, Kazakhstan and arrived at the station two days later. During his tour of duty aboard the station, Williams performed two spacewalks wearing both Russian and U.S. spacesuits. The spacewalks focused on the outfitting of the station to prepare external hardware for the addition of station elements as well as tending to external science experiments.


Expedition 13 also saw the arrival of two space shuttle missions, the resumption of construction of the orbiting laboratory, and the restoration of a three-person crew. Williams returned to Earth in his Soyuz capsule on September 28, 2006 with a safe landing in Kazakhstan.
