Well, I have my CV8 monaro and I decided to buy a rear wing for it and since Holden dealers don't want to sell you one and if they do, they must supply, paint and fit and charge you an outrageous price, up yours Holden dealers. I was given a phone number of a company called Ray Zahl's designer kits and spoilers at Moorooka. I spoke to the owner Ray, I said I want this spoiler and I want the paint matched 99% perfect (devil yellow). Well, Ray said he would give it his best shot. Now, I know through experience if you persevere you will get the results you want but these lazy greedy Panel Beater/Spray Painters today aren't prepared to spend a little extra time to match the paint correctly thus you end up with a slightly lighter or darker colour. Well, I can tell you this, Ray Zahls did a very good job and if they can do it, why can't these other Spray Painter/Panel beaters do it? OOOhhhh I know why? time is money and it takes time to match the paint correctly.
Now I have decided to go back to Ray for another job, see I have bought a VZ monaro vented bonnet to suit my CV8 monaro, so we have the same problem again, can the bonnet painted match the car? So what I did was ring up for a few quotes, 5 Panel Beater/Spray Paint shops and Ray Zahls, 3 of the panel beater shops were dearer than Ray, 2 were cheaper but what got my attention was the panel beater/spray painters shops said to me quote "we will blow some paint on your guards sir" I said "your painting the bonnet mate, not the guards, he replied, we paint over the guards so it matches the bonnet, then I said, when you paint over the guards, there must be an edge between the new paint on the guard and the existing paint, he replied "Oh we put clear lacquer over that sir". I said I want the bonnet painted, why don't you just match the paint correctly? Oh, I forgot, that takes time, its a lot easier to paint the tops of the guards to match the bonnet. Anyhow, whilst I am typing this Ray Zahls is spraying my bonnet, I have given him my petrol cap cover, like I did for the rear wing spoiler and he is going to give it his darn best shot to match it as good as what he did on the rear wing spoiler.
Stay tuned folks for the outcome.
Phil

Phil,
Very good work mate, looks like I would be keeping that fuel cap, for any further work, seems it does a good job.
When I was getting panel work done I had nothing to leave so I had to leave my car there for them to match the paint. So that fuel cap is a smart idea.
Look forward to seeing some nice pics of your monaro, personally I wouldn't put a spoiler on one, but I think with the scoops as well it sets it off nice and doesn't make the wing look out of place.

Well I found out why the paint didn't match in the first place.
See they change supplier not long ago so it means a different manufacture of paint was used on the bonnet. Now Ray from the paint shop mixed the paint according to specs but the specs were wrong.
So yesterday a rep from the paint company came out and tested the paint for him self from the settings from the computer and again it was wrong. Now after 6 attempts of adding ORANGE and Black the colour in now good on a test strip after being test sprayed and checked with the car, but we will not know until the bonnet is sprayed and fitted again. so who fucked up?? the paint manufacture, and yes the paint manufacture is also spraying the bonnet at Ray Zahls. Now why would the Manufacture want to spray the bonnet??? why I would say the owner of the spray shop said its the paint manufacture's stuff up so they should fix it as Ray would have to do it again and time is money. Now who compensates me ?????????
The guy from the paint company was very good at his work and did not rush at all to mix the paint.
Well next week it should be on and will let you all know.

Well they still can't match it, there is something wrong with this industry if you have to use your eye on a cloudy day to match your paint.
For all the shit i've had to go through I now don't recommend anyone above, they done a good job painting the Spoiler on the rear and totally fucked the paint job on the Bonnet for the second time. its got me stumped. this week will be interesting because i 'm having a meeting with some experts over this matter.
Also office of fair trading have had plenty of similar complaints lately. WHATS GOING ON!!! I will find out.

Yes I paid top dollar for the job. this time i've told the shop Its My Fucking car and i'm being involved, also i'm ready as i know the mistakes the other shop did. you never repeat the same mistakes twice..I have the painted templates of the bonnet as it is now (to dark) and what pisses me off at the other shop i told them it was to dark before they sprayed it because they matched it to the guard ( corner) on a cloudy day (meatheads) mind you they are experts, hummmmm with no common sence.
