Just 20 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Hengchun, Pingtung, Taiwan. The tremor was recorded late at night on Monday 25 January 2021 at 10:24 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hengchun (pop. 31,300) located 63 km from the epicenter, and Donggang (pop. 48,100) 93 km away.
