NATO Secretary General welcomes arrest of Goran Hadzic

Press Release (2011) 094
Issued on 20 Jul. 2011

I very much welcome the arrest of Goran Hadzic, the last war crimes suspect indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Following the transfer of Ratko Mladic to the Hague, this arrest will allow for the most painful chapter in recent European history to be closed.
I commend the step taken by the Serbian authorities to live up to their international obligations. Serbia's future lies in constructive cooperation with its neighbours and the Euro-Atlantic family. NATO remains committed to assisting the entire Western Balkan region on the way to Euro-Atlantic integration.
