Moderate magnitude 4.6 quake hits 75 km southeast of asamara, Eritrea early afternoon

Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck near asamara, Central, Eritrea. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Sunday, June 5th, 2022, at 3:38 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Adi Keyh (pop. 13,100) located 45 km from the epicenter, Massawa (pop. 23,100) 50 km away, and Dek’emhāre (pop. 11,000) 62 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include asamara (pop. 563,900) located 75 km from the epicenter, Mendefera (pop. 17,800) 91 km away, and Ādīgrat (pop. 65,000) 102 km away.
