Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Ciudad de San Juan, Departamento de Capital, San Juan, Argentina 4.4 quake 5 Jun 3:12 am (GMT -3) The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Argentina near Ciudad de San Juan, Departamento de Capital, San Juan, only 15 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Sunday, June 5th, 2022, at 3:12 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Villa Basilio Nievas (pop. 4,000) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Pocito (pop. 41,000) 56 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ciudad de San Juan (pop. 447,000) located 67 km from the epicenter, Villa Paula de Sarmiento (pop. 19,100) 70 km away, Santa Lucia (pop. 43,600) 70 km away, Chimbas (pop. 73,800) 71 km away, Albardon (pop. 20,400) 75 km away, and Caucete (pop. 33,600) 84 km away.
