Moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake 18 km southeast of Naranjal, Ecuador4.4 quake 23 Jun 10:09 am (GMT -5) The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Ecuador near Naranjal, Cantón Naranjal, Provincia del Guayas, only 18 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Friday, June 23rd, 2023, at 10:09 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Naranjal (pop. 32,000) located 18 km from the epicenter, Balao (pop. 12,200) 35 km away, and La Troncal (pop. 36,400) 46 km away.
