Harris is using its ImageLinks TrueTerrain technology to enhance DigitalGlobe's satellite imagery of Athens. The imagery will be further enhanced with 3-D modelling to provide remarkably detailed "virtual views" of Athens landmarks like the Acropolis, as well as the Olympic Village and sporting venues, during NBC's broadcasts of the Olympic games. NBC's Olympic coverage is slated to begin with the opening ceremonies on Friday, August 13 and continues through the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 29.<br />

Amazonas is the second communications spacecraft launched in the world, equipped with a highly efficient lithium-ion battery. Eutelsat W3A, which was the first, was launched on March 15, 2004. The Amazonas and W3A satellites were manufactured by EADS Astrium. They are based on the new Eurostar E3000 platform, with Saft's rechargeable Li-ion battery cells.<br />

This process was used to apply the gold coating of the Cosmic Dust Analyzer in the Cassini-Huygens space mission to explore Saturn and its moon Titan. The gold layer is necessary for balanced heat distribution to sustain the integrity of the instrument under extreme conditions in space.<br />
